Superstars Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, and Ryan Gosling are teaming up for The Big Short, a new drama focusing on the housing crisis of the mid 2000s.

According to Variety’s report, Pitt spearheaded the project with his production company, Plan B, and Christian Bale and Ryan Gosling have been confirmed as participants.

The Big Short will be an adaptation of the bestseller from Michael Lewis. Lewis also wrote Moneyball, which became an Oscar-nominated film for Pitt in 2011. Here is a synopsis of the book:

“The real story of the crash began in bizarre feeder markets where the sun doesn’t shine and the SEC doesn’t dare, or bother, to tread: the bond and real estate derivative markets where geeks invent impenetrable securities to profit from the misery of lower–and middle–class Americans who can’t pay their debts. The smart people who understood what was or might be happening were paralyzed by hope and fear; in any case, they weren’t talking.”

There is no indication as to which roles Brad Pitt, Christina Bale, or Ryan Gosling will be playing in The Big Short, but the star power is definitely undeniable. Along with Plan B producing The Big Short, the screenplay will be adapted by comedy director Adam McCay, a strange choice given his career which includes films like Anchorman and Talladega Nights: The Legend of Ricky Bobby.

The Big Short does not yet have a shooting schedule or a release date. Brad Pitt can be seen in the upcoming drama By The Sea, directed by his wife Angelina Jolie. Christian Bale stars in the upcoming Terrence Malick film, Knight of Cups. Ryan Gosling, who is also appearing in an upcoming Terrence Malick film that does not yet have a name attached to it, just finished filming the upcoming Shane Black thriller The Nice Guys.
