Kendall Jones is a Facebook celebrity, Texas Tech cheerleader, avid hunter, and the object of many people’s lust and/or hate. Once again, she has sparked controversy.
She achieved a certain level of fame (and infamy) last year when some websites profiled her Facebook page from a critical perspective. On that page, she can be seen posing next to animals she has killed. Some of her quarry includes animals that are typically not killed for meat, such as lions. That’s why she’s been on the receiving end of quite a bit of hate.
However, a recent move by Jones has earned her some renewed criticism. Just a couple of days before Christmas, she started a “Hot Hunter” contest.
Most of the men reading this will likely be disappointed to learn that she was looking for a hot male hunter.
“Alright! [sic] Taylor Altom and I have been inspired to create the first ‘World’s hottest guy hunters’ list!” Jones posted on her Facebook page. “Here’s how it’s gonna work. If you want to nominate yourself, post your pic in the comments below using the hashtag #hothunter . Taylor and I will pick our favorite ten and then let ya’ll vote on them. C’mon boys, show us what you got! And please, don’t submit celebs or friends of yours, only guys submitting themselves will be considered, I wouldn’t subject you to the feeling of being unwittingly put into an online beauty contest without your consent.”
Cue the outrage.
“(Applause) for the day your gun fails and the lion tears u apart,” wrote Paul Norton.
Jones said that the reason she started the contest was to highlight a double standard.
“The real reason I did this whole competition was to prove that what really pisses off the anti-hunting crowd is not that I hunt, or that I pose with my trophies, or that I’m proud of my achievements… its the fact that I’m a girl and I’m doing those things,” she wrote. “Well I’m here to tell you, I’m NEVER going to stop. I’m proud to hunt, proud to cheer, proud to wear makeup, and especially PROUD TO BE ME!”
Press your buzzer if you think that helped silence her critics.
“Let’s hunt you for your blonde locks they would look so much better on my head than yours!!” wrote Calvin Fox.
It’s safe to say that neither side is going to budge in this contest.
