Fox News Terror Expert Apologizes After Saying Birmingham, England Is ‘Totally Muslim’

A Fox News terrorism analyst has issued an apology after saying that the city of Birmingham, England is “totally Muslim.”

“In Britain, it’s not just no-go zones, there are actual cities like Birmingham that are totally Muslim where non-Muslims just simply don’t go in,” Steve Emerson told Judge Jeanine Pirro during her weekend show.

Those remarks sparked both outrage and ridicule. The hashtag “#FoxNewsFacts” became a trending topic on Twitter, with numerous tweeters mocking the cable news channel for airing the ridiculous statement.

The reality, according to The Daily Mail is that 22% of so-called “Brummies” are Muslim. Just under half of the population (46%) regard themselves as Christian.

The city does have the ninth highest Muslim population in Britain, though. Still, that’s a far cry from being “totally Muslim.”

Emerson has issued an apology following his bizarre outburst. He praised the city as “beautiful” and promised a donation to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

“I have clearly made a terrible error for which I am deeply sorry,” he told ITV News.

“My comments about Birmingham were totally in error,” he continued. “And I am issuing an apology and correction on my website immediately for having made this comment about the beautiful city of Birmingham.”

Emerson offered no excuses.

“I do not intend to justify or mitigate my mistake by stating that I had relied on other sources because I should have been much more careful,” he said.

However, the terrorism expert did not offer any apology to the city’s Muslim population. Some critics, who accuse him of promoting Islamophobia, think that was warranted.

Emerson has run a group called The Investigative Project on Terrorism for 20 years. He’s also written books about the subject, including Jihad Incorporated and The Terrorists Living Among Us.

Emerson also criticized what he perceived to be Islamic influence in London, saying: “And parts of London, there are actually Muslim religious police that actually beat and actually wound seriously anyone who doesn’t dress according to Muslim, religious Muslim attire.”

It appears that he did not apologize for those comments.
