Madonna can breathe easier now that a hacking suspect has been arrested in Israel. The unidentified 39-year-old man is suspected of hacking into Madonna’s computers and selling her unreleased songs online. The Israeli police said the man also stole work from several unnamed international stars.
“He is suspected of computer hacking, copyright violation and fraudulent receipt of goods. During the investigation it appeared the suspect had broken into the computers of a number of international artists, stole unreleased demos and final tracks and sold them over the internet.”
In December Madonna rush-released a number of new songs after demos and unfinished mixes from her new album “Rebel Heart” were leaked. Madonna called the act “a form of terrorism.” She also called it “artistic rape” on her Instagram account.
Asher Wizman, the owner of a private investigation firm in Israel, told Reuters how they were asked by Madonna to find the hacking suspect. Her team had contacted him several weeks ago after rumors of an Israeli connection to the leak.
Wizman said, “Our investigator found her computers, at home and at a studio, were broken into from a computer in Israel. We tracked down the computer, and the man behind it. After gathering enough evidence, we turned to the police and he was arrested today.”
According to reports by the cybercrime division of Lahav 433, the FBI-like organization that made the arrest, the unidentified man is a former contestant on one of Israel’s TV talent shows.
Madonna announced today on her website that she will be performing at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards on February 8. Her “Living For Love” single goes to radio on Feb. 12th. She also shared that her 13th studio album “Rebel Heart” will be released March 10th on Interscope Records.
So far no comment about the arrest from Madonna herself and no charges have been filed yet against the hacking suspect.
