Michigan State’s Defensive Star Trae Waynes Decleares For NFL Draft

Trae Waynes of the Michigan State Spartans, has declared for the NFL draft. The decision is one that most people were expecting, and he will likely be chosen in the first round of the draft.

One of the stars of the Michigan State defense, Waynes, is listed as the No.1 cornerback in the country, and should help any NFL team that drafts him. The Spartan defense has been outstanding over the past few years while being led by defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi, who recently took a head coaching job with Pittsburgh.

Over the course of the 2014 season, the star cornerback recorded 46 tackles, a sack, three interceptions and eight passes broken up. He is a redshirt junior and will miss out on his last year of eligibility, and defensive end Shilique Calhoun is still deciding on what he might do with his career.

Everyone was predicting that Trae Waynes would declare for the NFL draft and when asked by the Kenosha News, he said “I’m sure it’s kind of obvious. Yeah, I’m gonna go.”

The decision for him to enter the NFL draft comes less than 24 hours after a dramatic come-back victory for the Michigan State Spartans over Baylor in the Cotton Bowl.

The defense allowed 42 points by the end, but stepped up when it counted, and prevented Baylor from scoring in the fourth quarter in order for MSU to erase a 20 point deficit and win the game.

The loss of Trae Waynes will certainly impact the Spartans, and while they were one of the strongest defenses in the country, they would tend to struggle against deep passes at times, which was evident in each of their losses to Oregon, Baylor, and Ohio State.

Michigan State finishes the season with a record of 11-2, and their only losses were to the two teams that are now set to play for the national championship.

Trae Waynes is predicted to get drafted in the first round of the NFL draft, and it can always be tough to return to school when that is the case. Will the Spartans be able to keep up their streak of good defense without Trae Waynes?
