The Montblanc brand launched the all new Montblanc Timewalker Urban Speed e-strap watch line just two hours into 2015. It is a luxury watch equipped with smart functioning that allows you to make a bold style statement while also being integrated with the capabilities of more functional smart watches.
This e-strap enables connectivity via BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) to Android and iOS smartphones, it is a neat little band on the inside of your wrist where you can monitor your fitness tracking data, your notifications and it also comes complemented with an activity tracker as well as a Find-Me function.
You can receive notifications of incoming calls, emails, and social feeds. Augmented with a remote control feature that can play music or trigger a camera shutter on your smartphone, the luxury watches with e-straps are designed to impress. The band is essentially a 0.9-inch OLED touchscreen with a 128 x 36 resolution that is removable and can be swapped for the non-Smart strap.
The luxury watch seems to be quite solid in terms of durability thanks to its shock-and-splash resistance. It offers up to five days of continuous use before its lithium ion battery must be recharged via micro USB.
Contrary to intuition, it is quite comfortable on the wrist and does not in any way take away from the smart appearance of the watch. It serves to be an interactive, connected wearable device and calls to question whether the market is ready for the smart watch revolution.
Montblanc’s smart wearables are indeed a healthy sign that shows the luxury watch industry is moving out of its comfort zone by trying to ride the digital wave instead of adopting a more conservative position by being aloof to it.
