Polaroid, the camera brand that has been through trying times is currently engaged in a strategic revival of its good name and market value, refreshing its product lines. It has partnered with Blipfoto, an Edinburgh based photo journaling service to create a place for Polaroid Blipfoto where users are encouraged to document their lives and keep a record by taking just one photo each day and adding text. It is available across all mobile devices.

This is to encourage users to slow down the maddening pace of life, introspect and recognize the meaningful moments. It encourages selectivity as users actively decide on a picture as opposed to Instagram or Facebook where uploading troves of photos and building massive collections is common practice. These pictures are special memories that a user can emotionally connect to, it’s a way of building a personal history.

“As more and more consumers gain access to connected devices, this number is sure to grow exponentially,” Polaroid’s president and CEO Scott Hardy says. “However, the truth is that the majority of these photos have little meaning or impact.”

Polaroid has entirely revamped its website offering a clean and uncluttered interface that users will instantly find appealing. However, this strategy might backfire considering the users would now be limited to one post a day and would therefore not keep coming back to the app as often as they otherwise might.

Other apps like Momento, Heyday and Day One also compete in photo journaling although they offer more of a digital diary experience rather than the firmer focus on photos. Polaroid had collaborated with an indie developer Dana Shakiba to create the Polamatic app in its past endeavors in a partnership which led to the brand name being too recognized with instant photos.
