A new trailer for the action comedy Spy has been released, showing Melissa McCarthy as a mild-mannered analyst who becomes a bumbling super spy.
The film, directed by Paul Feig, has some star power surrounding the comedian, including Jude Law and Jason Statham. Here is the Spy trailer:
In addition to this trailer, which will be ahead of upcoming theatrical releases, Spy also has a red-band trailer, showing Melissa McCarthy and the cast behaving a bit more crudely. This red-band trailer has a few different scenes, and the scenes in the above trailer have been amped up with some salty language. You can see the R-rated trailer here, but be warned, the language is offensive and not for kids:
Here is the official synopsis for Spy:
“Susan Cooper is an unassuming, deskbound CIA analyst, and the unsung hero behind the Agency’s most dangerous missions. But when her partner falls off the grid and another top agent is compromised, she volunteers to go deep undercover to infiltrate the world of a deadly arms dealer, and prevent a global disaster.”
Along with Melissa McCarthy, Jude Law, and Jason Statham, Spy also stars Rose Byrne, Allison Janney, Miranda Hart, Bobby Canavale, and rapper 50 Cent.
Spy is the third collaboration between Melissa McCarthy and director Paul Feig. The two first teamed up in Bridesmaids, the comedy smash hit that put McCarthy on the map and earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Their second collaboration, The Heat, was a modest success and co-starred Sandra Bullock.
After Spy, Melissa McCarthy may be teaming up with Feig to do a reboot of Ghostbusters. Jennifer Lawrence is also circling the project. While the title is tentatively Ghostbusters 3, Feig insists the film will be a hard reboot starring an all-female cast.
Spy will hit theaters on May 22.
