What Can You Blog About? Threats Your Readers Face

What Can You Blog About? Threats Your Readers Face image small 503600331 22Wondering what to blog about is becoming an increasing headache for many business people. In this series, we take a look at some key areas of inspiration to help trigger ideas for your next blog post. This time, we look at threats your readers face.

You don’t want to be a scare mongerer, but it does make sense for you to warn your readers / customers about things you can envisage as potential threats – and how they can prepare for them and deal with them if and when they arise.

Obviously you can’t suddenly leap into their businesses and swashbuckle away threats that aren’t within your remit. However within that remit of yours, potentially there is quite a lot that you can contribute which will reassure your customers and prospects that you are (or can be) in there looking after their best interests.

OK – how about some examples?

Your business is: a dental practice

Well, there are no surprises about what threats your clients and prospects could find out here! However – especially but not exclusively – if you run an entirely private (i.e. not government funded) practice dental scare mongering might just work out to be a no-no.

I went to a private dentist once to have my jacket crowns checked and was told, after x-rays, that the “pegs” on which my current crowns were hung were utterly rotten and likely to drop my entire dental array into my next plate of pasta, sure as hell.

I smelled a rat, so went to another dentist whom I trust – a dentist who works within the UK’s NHS – and who, after x-raying, said … well, I won’t share what she said because it was extremely rude and contained several 4-letter words. But you get the picture. My “pegs” were fine. That private dentist was a charlatan.

Moral to this story? Although you may want to scare your clients and prospects into getting their teeth checked more regularly, don’t overdo it. And apart from telling them they need to check in with you regularly, be sure to help them look after their teeth and gums effectively at home.

Your business: an electrical contractor

Once again, no surprises for blog post ideas: if your electrics are old / worn out / inappropriate you could be asking for a fire in your home. Endless options for warning blog posts here, especially in European countries where we seem to waft over modernization of such things and “make do” with old sh*t that we shouldn’t.

How to be sure you’re prepared for an electricity outage – candles, matches, torches/flashlights, oil lamps, etc. … what to do about switching off appliances etc in an outage … who to contact (in your local area) to find out news on an outage… etc.

Safety with household appliances, power points, extension leads, etc. … particularly safety with children and power points and appliances…

Your business: travel agency

This might appear to be a bit of a no-no where you’re concerned because the last thing you want your clients to think is that there could be problems attached to your service! However, you can turn that particular issue around to your advantage.

For starters, you can blog about the dangers of using untried resources on the internet for booking travel and holidays … the downsides of the “last minute” booking options … “

Then, depending on the nature of your particular business you can examine the pros and cons of booking “direct” to owners of holiday properties as against booking such things via an agency (like yours) which checks such properties out and eliminates the bad ones…

And so-on.
