The festive season is definitely upon us. Advent calendars, Christmas jumpers and Michael Bublé have descended upon Bubble HQ and it’s our Christmas party tomorrow (woop woop!). But as you decorate your computer screen with tinsel and gorge on Quality Street, don’t forget to spread a little festive cheer across your social media channels.
Holidays are a great time to mix up your social media strategy a bit and drive more traffic to your site. Whether it’s a competition, promotion or just getting people talking about Christmas, the holiday season should definitely boost your website traffic and, hopefully, increase your ROI.
Big brands like John Lewis have already made the most of Christmas by exclusively revealing their TV advert on Twitter. The retail giants launched their festive campaign on Twitter by posting their Bear and Hare advert there before it was broadcast on TV using the hashtag #bearandhare, which was trending nationally.
But there’s so much you can do without having a multi million pound budget – here’s some tips on how to maximise the potential of festive-themed social media promotion!
1) Pinterest Is Your Friend
If you are a company that sells a product that can be given as a Christmas present – you’re in luck! Pinterest is a super-effective way of promoting your products to customers who may not be actively looking for that particular item. Categorize your products into separate boards, e.g. Gifts for Men, Gifts for Women, Gifts for TV Lovers etc. Brands like ASOS, John Lewis and Amazon have used this tactic to great effect to boost website traffic and ROI – and so can you!
2) Website Easter Eggs
Everyone loves a competition, and that’s truer than ever at Christmas. One great way to increase website traffic and encourage your customers to engage with your brand is to hold an Easter Egg hunt on your site. Here at Bubble, we’ve hidden 12 secret Santas across our main site, blog and career portal for our users to find! Whoever finds all 12 and e-mails them to lauren@bubble-jobs.co.uk will be entered into a draw to win a mystery prize!
This is not only a fun way to engage your customers, but it also encourages them to search all over your website, which will increase the chance of them seeing something they’ll like and either buying it or at least engaging with/sharing it!
3) Creative Contest
What better way to get your customers in the festive spirit than to encourage them to share their Christmas pictures?! A great way to engage your customers is to hold a contest where they have to send in a picture of their Christmas jumper, tree, decorations etc. This is great for engagement and exposure as images get more retweets, likes, shares etc than plain text and this contest can be held across multiple platforms. Bring together your fans on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest etc for a fun contest!
4) Add Some Holiday Cheer To Your Logos
You might have noticed that Santa hats have appeared on all of our social media profiles. This is just a bit of fun but can engage your customers and show that you’re fun and don’t take yourself too seriously. Also, if you don’t have a santa hat to hand – no problem! The Bubble festive cheer only took an hour of Photoshopping to create! :)
5) Encourage People To Talk About Christmas
The truth is, unless your customers are made up of total bah humbugs, they will like talking about Christmas! Engage them with statuses or tweets asking what their favorite Christmas songs are, whether they’re prone to doing last minute shopping or what their favorite festive tradition is. Sometimes it’s okay to meander away from your brand subject, it’s a lighthearted break and will engage users who are just getting into the festive spirit.
So there you have it, some festive tips to Christmasize (yes I’ve just made that word up) your social media campaign! Do you agree with these tips or have you got any of your own?
