Composing copy that people will actually read and not just throw away is a lot more challenging than you think. Readers are a prickly bunch. They only read the ones they find interesting at first glance. If you want their attention to linger past the first paragraph, you have to do better than simply summarizing a research.
Just because it’s difficult doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Other writers have done it, and even those with little background in writing can produce fresh, interesting content. There’s actually a formula to it, and you only need to know how to make it suit your message.
1. Start with an eye-catching headline.
Think of the headline as part of the content, and think of it as a bait to lure in readers. If readers don’t like your title, if they don’t find it interesting, then good luck having them reach your first paragraph. First, you have to make them click the article. Phrase your headline in a way that will tickle their curiosity and lead them to your work.
2. Make a promise and commit to it.
As much as an enticing headline is necessary, just be sure that you can deliver what you promise. If you swear that your tips are fool-proof, then make sure that they are. Don’t just pick words because they sound good. Your headline must match your article. Commit to writing what you promise so readers won’t feel cheated, but fulfilled for reading an interesting article.
3. Create lists for easier reading.
Web copywriting is a tricky business, because the users’ attention is often fleeting. A good way to keep them glued to reading is by using lists in articles. Every entry on the list must stand out by formatting them in bold or making headlines. This makes the article scannable and easy enough to understand by those who only browse online posts.
4. Use power words.
There’s a science in copywriting, and using powerful words is just apart of it. In the English language, there are persuasive words that are ideal for content marketing. These words are You, Instantly, Because, Free, and New. With these five words, you already caught their attention. They are trigger words that will make them look forward to what you have to say next.
5. Include related images.
Humans are highly visual creatures and you need to bank on this to create attractive copies. Of course, don’t make it seem like there are more photos than content. One photo is enough to illustrate a point. But if you feel the need to use more, then do so. An infographic is the perfect choice of image for an article.
Remember, it’s not just about the content but how you deliver it that makes for an outstanding writing.
