Dakota Johnson Stuns At 87th Oscars; Fifty Shades Of Grey Conquers Box Office

Dakota Johnson arrived to the 87th Annual Academy Awards at Hollywood & Highland Center and looked stunning. She is currently a trending topic and for good reason. Fifty Shades of Grey once again aroused enough interest to finish at No. 1 at the box office.

Johnson walked the red carpet in a bright red Saint Laurent gown and Forevermark jewels, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The daughter of Melanie Griffith got her role of lifetime this year, after being cast as Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades of Grey. Johnson is a presenter.

The film adaptation of E.L. James’ erotic drama grossed $23.2 million, according to studio estimates. That number is unfortunately a concerning 73 percent drop from last weekend’s record-setting $81.7 million. However, that should not be seen as a disappointment.

“The film is now over $400 million worldwide,” says Rentrak’s Paul Dergarabedian. “It’s an unqualified, out-and-out success. That second-week drop gets relegated to the who-cares category. This movie was a sprinter out of the gate, posting the biggest opening weekend ever for February and becoming a worldwide phenomenon the minute it was released.”

USA Today reported that all three of the previous weekend’s top films kept the same spots a second time. Fox’s R-rated action drama Kingsman: The Secret Service stayed strong with $17.5 million, bringing its total revenue to more than $67 million. SpongeBob Squarepants: Sponge Out of Water remained in the No. 3 spot, earning $15.5 million, for a 17-day North American gross of $125.2 million.
