Patriots Quarterback Tom Brady and Coach Bill Belichick have spent a lot of time denying they had anything to do with Deflate-Gate. However, there are new conflicting developments in deflate-gate that will not matter to most fans who have already given their opinion.
There is a new report that is suggesting a new perspective on the controversy involving the New England Patriots’ deflated footballs in the AFC championship game against the Indianapolis Colts.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said only one of the Patriots’ 12 game footballs was two pounds under the minimum of 12.5 pounds per square inch (PSI). The report said 11 were under 12.5 PSI but many were “just a few ticks under the minimum.”
However, there are other conflicting reports. ESPN.com’s Chris Mortensen wrote on Jan. 21 that said 11 of the 12 footballs were “significantly” under the 12.5 level, and that “the footballs were inflated 2 pounds per square inch below what’s required by NFL regulations.”
As of right now, the NFL has once again made a huge mistake regarding one of their controversies. The handling has been at best lackadaisical. Although NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said he is available to the media, all the league has done is put out a statement and had a press conference with Goodell that revealed very few details.
While the controversy still exists leading into the Super Bowl, late night has been having fun with it.
New England sports fans are some of the most die-hard fans in the U.S., if not the world with a strong loyalty to their teams. On Jimmy Kimmel Live, a slew of celebrity Patriots fans—including Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, John Krasinski and Captain America himself, Chris Evans portrayed regular guys so devoted to their team (and Tom Brady’s lips) that they lie about perpetuating “Deflate-gate.”
