Darren Shahlavi was found dead in his sleep on January 14th, although his death was just made public today. He was a martial artist and actor who had small parts in several action films, and some television shows.
Shahlavi’s agent said that the actor died in his sleep from an unknown cause, although it has been rumored that he overdosed on prescription drugs. He was 42 at the time of his death, and he had a history of alcohol and drug abuse.
His primary career prior to turning to acting was martial arts, and he was later seen fighting in several films and television shows including Mortal Kombat: Legacy, and the pilot episode of the CW action show Arrow.
Darren Shahlavi’s death is another shocker in the Hollywood community, and he had just finished shooting a new action film with Jean Claude Van Damme called Pound Of Flesh.
In addition, he had two other films that were in process prior to his death, Kickboxer: Vengeance and Tomorrowland, which stars George Clooney and Hugh Laurie.
Some of his other notable film credits include Watchmen, 300, Ip Man 2, and Alone In The Dark. He started his martial arts training at the age of 7 while growing up in England, and from there he went to Hong Kong, where he began his career as an actor and stunt double.
His costar Stephen Amell on Arrow expressed his feelings regarding his death on Twitter.
RIP Darren Shahlavi. 1st guy I ever fought on Arrow. He was a great dude & a patient, thoughtful partner. Fight looked good because of him.

Shahlavi’s acting career began in 1991 with a role in The Turbulent Affair, followed up by Hero’s Blood, and then several Chinese films before breaking into Hollywood. His first role in an American film was the 2002 box office bomb I Spy with Eddie Murphy and Owen Wilson.
Although Darren Shahlavi is dead, he still has more films to be released as many young actors do when they pass, and plenty of old favorites to return to. What role will you remember him for most?
