The State of Content Marketing 2015

At Wyzowl, we have directly benefitted from content marketing as a way of adding more value to our brand, and expanding brand knowledge for our customers. And, as a content marketing agency, we have also done this for several clients who all agree that content really is king.

So, we feel it’s safe to say that content marketing has now firmly established itself as the best way to generate new leads and nurture existing customers.

In case you’re slightly behind the times, content marketing is defined by the Content Marketing Institute as:

“A marketing technique of creating and distributing valuable, relevant and consistent content to attract and acquire a clearly defined audience — with the objective of driving profitable customer action”.

And, while we think this is a bang-on definition, we want to dig deeper.

Content marketing is notoriously difficult to measure. That’s because the main component you’re trying to measure, brand awareness, cannot really exist as a solid metric. It’s because of this that many people give up on content marketing, only to revert back to it again a few months later — the abandonment rate of blogs is 95%! This is the exact opposite of what you need to do to see results from your content marketing.

Content marketing is a game that only the patient can play. A 2013 study found that, for small businesses (both B2B and B2C), leads increased by 2.5 when the businesses had more than 100 pages of content. These sites also noted receiving 5x as much traffic when they blogged consistently 15 times a month for 6-9 months.

So, it’s all a waiting game.

However, if you’re one of those marketers that really needs to measure you can look at social shares as a signifier in the success of your content. But, of course, that still doesn’t offer a crystal clear picture of the state of your content marketing. That’s why, here at Wyzowl, we’ve come up with an idea.

We figure, there’s power in numbers.

We’ve created a survey titled ‘The State of Content Marketing 2015‘. Our survey is filled with 35 content marketing related questions. And, we hope that by gaining 35 honest, content marketing related answers from people across different industries we can create a clear image of content marketing as it stands today.

Those that do contribute can look forward to a chance of winning 1 of 5 $100 Amazon vouchers, and accessing the results of the survey before they are shown to the public. This means that by taking just 5 minutes out of your day to complete our survey, you’ll have access to an abundance of up-to-date, 2015 statistics before anyone else. Plus, there’s the added satisfaction of being part of an important industry survey. :)
