While Nashville fans can rejoiced that the show was picked up by CMT, news now comes that Will Chase will not continue with show. Rather, Chase, who played Luke Wheeler on Nashville, has joined the new ABC drama Time After Time as a series regular. Chase will play Griffin, who is described as an ambitious and charismatic war veteran vying to be New York’s next state senator, according to EW.
For Chase, the departure was not surprising and could very well have happened even if the series were staying on ABC as his story arc has largely played out. Chase, whose character Luke was originally introduced as a love interest to Connie Britton’s Rayna Jaymes. In the Season 4 finale, Luke celebrated victory in his campaign to support client Will Lexington against homophobia, reconciled with his son and even reconnected with his ex-wife, tying all loose ends for a happily ever after.
Here’s the official description from ABC: “As boyfriend to billionaire Vanessa Anders, he’s also one half of Manhattan’s most talked about power couple. But when a mysterious man in the form of H.G. Wells suddenly becomes a major distraction in Vanessa’s life, Griffin finds his relationship with her strained and his patience tested.”
Starring Freddie Stroma (Harry Potter films, UnREAL) as H.G. Wells, Time After Time follows the famed science-fiction writer as he’s transported to modern day Manhattan in pursuit of Jack the Ripper (played by Revenge’s Josh Bowman). The drama is from Kevin Williamson (The Vampire Diaries, Scream franchise) and also stars Genesis Rodriguez (Big Hero 6) as Jane, and Regina Taylor (Dig) as Vanessa Anders.
After two decades as the reigning queen of country music, Rayna Jaymes (Connie Britton) is faced with pressure to adapt and reinvent herself to stay relevant. Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere) is a sassy, sexy singer with a troubled past who is determined to steal Rayna’s place at the top. Other characters in Nashville’s music scene include a beautiful and gifted songwriter, Scarlett O’Connor, up-and-coming musician Gunnar Scott, conflicted country star Will Lexington, and Deacon Claybourne, a guitar player who has worked with Rayna since the beginning of her career.
