Kyrie Irving Declares Cleveland Cavaliers As To The Team To Beat

While the Golden State Warriors dominate the Western Conference, The Cleveland Cavaliers are making a claim for the top spot with their latest win against the Brooklyn Nets 107-87.

Despite the off-court drama from the team, Kyrie Irving offered a reminder about the team’s focus and chances for postseason success.

“Everything surrounding our team is just crazy to think that we’re still in first place and we’re still the team to beat, honestly,” Irving said to ESPN. “Regardless of what anybody else says of what we need and what we don’t need and what we need to get better at — us, internally, we know that we have to improve on a lot of things, but we’ve just got to handle business as professionals and continue to get better.”

Earlier this week, Irving expressed “love and compassion” for his ex-girlfriend Kehlani, who apparently tried to take her own life earlier this week. The Cleveland Cavaliers guard also pointed the finger of blame at Party Next Door, who seemed to spark a dramatic chain of events by posting a photo of himself in bed with the R&B singer, according to the Big Lead.

Irving and Kehlani’s relationship was put in the spotlight Monday when PartyNextDoor, a singer signed to Drake’s OVO label who dated Kehlani in the past, posted a photo of himself holding Kehlani’s hand on his Instagram account with a caption suggesting the pair was back together. The post was quickly deleted. Unfortunately, the post had already done its damage.

“I do not justify the picture or what dude did to try and spark all of this non sense that could have been avoided,” Irving wrote in a since-deleted tweet. “Nothing but love and compassion over this way for her and her family. My only focus the Game I love to play every night,” he added in an another erased message.

Irving was then asked if he meant that Cleveland was the team to beat in the East or in the entire league, over the likes of the Warriors and San Antonio Spurs. No doubt, the Western conference continues to have the better teams.

“I feel like we’re the team to beat,” Irving said. “I mean, honestly, it’s open season until we get into the playoffs, so I have a lot more confidence than I think anyone realizes in our team and what’s going on in our locker room.”

The Cavaliers currently sit in first place in the Eastern Conference, 2 1/2 games ahead of the Toronto Raptors with just seven games left on the schedule. Season-long favorites to make it back to the NBA Finals for a rematch with the Warriors. It would certainly make for another exciting matchup between the teams and the cities.
