Michigan State trailed for much of the game against the Baylor Bears, but possibly shocked everyone with an unbelievable fourth quarter comeback in order to win the Cotton Bowl. The Spartans won the game 42-41 after an intense final drive, scoring a touchdown with less than a minute to go.
The game was close in the beginning, and was once tied at 14 before Baylor looked like they were going to run away with the game and blowout the Spartans, aiming to prove that they should have been put into college playoff.
Heading into the game, Baylor was the 5th ranked team in the country, and many people thought that they may have deserved a spot in the playoffs. The Spartans were ranked 7th, and had 2 losses on the year, with both teams having a lot to prove in the game.
However, after going down 20 points when it was 41-21, the Michigan State Spartans got to work and were able to score 21 unanswered points in order to win Cotton Bowl. It looked hopeless at times for the Spartans while being down by such a large margin, and Baylor tearing apart their defense, but somehow they were able to find a way to win.
Wow – put Michigan State's comeback victory over Baylor on the short list of great games among many great games this bowl season.

The final touchdown was made with 17 seconds to go, and as if that was not enough emotion for Spartan fans, on Baylor’s final drive, the Spartan defense forced two sacks and an interception on their 3 final plays.
Both the offensive and defensive players for the Spartans stepped up and came up with some big plays, while also receiving help from the special teams on a blocked field goal.
The relatively unknown Bryce Petty, quarterback of the Baylor Bears, put up outstanding numbers in the game, completing 36 of 51 passes for a Cotton Bowl-record 550 yards and three touchdowns. On the Spartan side of the ball, Connor Cook completed 24 of 42 passes for 314 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Following their Cotton Bowl victory over Baylor, Michigan State finishes the season 11-2, with their only losses to Oregon and Ohio State, both in the playoff.
