Last Tuesday, December 30, 2014, Samsung officially released its new ultra-thin laptop, the ATIV Book 9. The all-aluminum PC is impressively thin at 0.46-inch and is very lightweight weighing in at 2.06 pounds. It is also one of the first laptops to use Intel’s new Core M processor.
Along with the Core M 5Y10c, the ATIV Book 9 sports a bright and beautiful 12.2-inch WQXGA (2560×1600) display powered by the Intel HD 5300 graphics processor. It comes with either 4GB or 8GB or RAM, along with 128GB or 256GB of SSD storage. The ATIV Book 9 features an extremely comfortable full-sized keyboard. The device is very silent too, and according to Samsung’s official post, you can use the device for up to 10.5 hours without having to recharge. This is thanks to the Core M which is not only powerful but also runs cooler than the previous Intel processors, allowing manufacturers to get rid of the noisy fan for cooling the CPU. Also, since it runs cooler, it consumes less battery power than other laptops of this generation.
As for the operating system, the ATIV Book 9 is shipped with Windows 8.1 pre-installed, although you may always replace it with another OS if you wish.
The ATIV Book 9 also includes some proprietary Samsung software, such as the SideSync 3.0, which allows users to easily share the screens, windows, and other data of their Samsung PC and Galaxy phone or tablet.
Samsung also boasts improved internet connectivity with the ATIV Book 9 laptop.
“With the addition of WiFi Amp, the Internet connection is up to 20 percent faster, ensuring the strongest wireless access point is prioritized based on the user’s environment.”
The Samsung ATIV Book 9 will be available in Q1 2015, starting at $1,199.99 MSRP with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, and $1,399.99 for the beefier 8GB/256GB version.
