The San Francisco Zoo is allowing customers to adopt a cockroach or scorpion in the name of their ex-boyfriend or girlfriend for Valentine’s Day.
Donations can range between $25 and $1,000 and feature adoptions of the Madagascar hissing cockroach, “believed to be the only insect that can hiss,” or a giant hairy scorpion.
The Adopt-a-Cockroach “Valentine’s Day Special” offers the following bit of wisdom, “When you think about the detritus of your love life this Valentine’s Day, consider adopting a Madagascar hissing cockroach for your ex.”
The donations go to a good cause, the care of the animals and the advancement of conservation efforts.
Also up for adoption are black rhinos, gorillas, lions and penguins.
Zookeepers in San Francisco point out some similarities to the giant hairy scorpions and lousy ex-boyfriends:
“Much like your low-life ex, they are usually found in and around low-elevation valleys where they dig elaborate burrows or ‘caves.’Also just like you-know-who, when a suitable victim wanders by, the scorpion grabs the doomed creature with its pinchers and stings the prey.”
Would you adopt a cockroach or scorpion for one of your exes?
