Rasheed Sulaimon has been released from the Duke Blue Devils, and will no longer be playing basketball for the team. He has been let go due to a violation of the team’s rules, but it is unclear what that means at this time.

He has had a disappointing career with Duke, and now it has finally come to an end, which could delight some fans of the team. He is a junior who plays the guard position, but his minutes and points have steadily gone down over his career.

The dismissal of Sulaimon comes less than 24 hours after the team lost to Notre Dame, a big game for both teams. The Blue Devils lost to the Fighting Irish 77-73 in a close game, and as a result, the team sits at 6th place in the ACC with a conference record of 4-3.

Rasheed Sulaimon hoped to be a star for Duke, but has not been able to make it into the starting lineup, and has struggled for much of his career with the team. He is expected to remain a student with the University through the end of the spring semester.

However, he may transfer for the fall semester in order to play out his final year of eligibility with a different school that would be able to utilize him more. This marks the first time that hall of fame coach Mike Kzyzewski has dismissed a player during his time at Duke.

The move also has strong implications on the team as a whole as it means that the time now has only 8 scholarships players, and could be in serious trouble if anyone else is to be injured or suspended.

How much will the dismissal of Rasheed Sulaimon effect the Duke Blue Devils? His performance has gone down since his freshman year, and over the 2014-2015 season, he has averaged a career-low 7.5 points and 2.0 rebounds per game on 41.3 percent shooting this year. Next up for Duke is Virginia on Saturday, and Duke could give Virginia their first loss of the season.
