Part two of our cautionary series is here! In our last post we talked about individualization between automated messages. You can read that post here if you missed it. Now that you know how to personalize your content using social automation, let’s talk about when to promote it. Using social automation software, it’s easy to schedule messages around the clock. But if your followers will not see the content, you might be doing a lot of work for nothing.
DON’T: Spam your followers’ twitter walls with content they will not read
Despite how invested I am in marketing, I do not go on twitter after work expecting to read endless streams about B2B interactions. There are certain times where the only people I should see showing up constantly on my feed are insomniac friends caught up in a White Collar marathon. There is no use posting content at 10 at night when very few people are actually reading it.
DO: Schedule frequent but not overwhelming tweets at strategic times
All social media promotion opportunities are not created equal. Just because you can post content 24/7 with little trouble for yourself, it does not mean that you should do so. Instead, plan for frequent but not overwhelming tweets (read: every hour or two, not every minute) throughout working hours and heavy-traffic times on social media. For Twitter, this generally means between 1-3 pm, Monday through Thursday, although timing varies depending on your target audience. If you have been keeping up with this blog, we discussed audience-specific times to post on twitter in a previous post– you can read the post here if you missed it.
There are a few exceptions: large social media events, conferences, etc. tend generate so much buzz that it’s more or less expected you tweet throughout the event.
Next time, we’ll continue this series and discuss keeping in two-way contact with your leads.
