I’ve heard a lot of chit chat in the industry recently about how Facebook is pretty much a desert for organic leads. If you aren’t paying for ads on Facebook then you’re probably wasting your time. It’s funny because when Google+ first came on the scene I actually refused to support it. Surprisingly I didn’t get fired, I ended up coming to terms with it and actually using it more for business than I use Facebook. Seeing as how it feels like I’m wrong more times than I’m right (yes I just admitted that), it didn’t really surprise me that Google+ took off like it did. Anything Google puts it’s pretty little hands on tends to turn to gold.
Even though Facebook is kind of a dead zone for organic leads there are other social media platforms that can still give you what you want. Google+, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Slideshare to name a few. Some may not see Slideshare as a social media platform but it’s just like all the other mediums except you share presentations and infographics.
Use Images
It seems that the theme across most socials is that visual performs better. If you post images, you’re more inclined to get more engagement with your posts. Of course you should be including relevant links with these images so your interested viewers get back to your website.
What images to post:
- Only things you have to right to publish
- Different types of images: blog post image, new offer image, fun Friday posts, office pets, office fun, company culture, things your clients are doing, etc.
- “Caption This” photos have shown to be very popular recently. Posting a photo and asking your followers or friends to write a caption for it.
Google+ communities
Joining other communities
Google+ Communities allow you to leverage a platform where your strategic partners and customers can share best practices, answer each other’s questions and share valuable information. In essence, you are creating a place where your stakeholders can interact with each other.
Having your own community
By mining your Community’s content, you will gain a better understanding for how people talk about your company and its products. Their phrases and words can be incorporated into your marketing communications, your SEO, etc.
How to generate leads from it
By implementing what certain marketing tactics—link users to useful information on your site vs. highlighting a new product—you can drive traffic to a landing page and then launch visitors into your regular lead-generation process. Think of your Google+ Community as the top of the marketing funnel.
Slideshare
It’s like Youtube for business presentations and it’s great for sharing. With most social media being super visual, slideshare will let you showcase your offers in the visual way everyone loves. To generate leads from Slideshare though you need to implement a form into your offer, you can also include more information and a description where you send them back to your website.
If you add relevant tags on your blog post it will help people find you who are searching in Slideshare for certain information. Similar to the way YouTube works, tags will help your offers get found and your offer and information will bring them back to your site.
Share on LinkedIn, go like comment and share the update
Almost everyone knows about LinkedIn groups which are great to bring awareness to your company and traffic to your site. Put their “Pulse” section allows you to follow industry influencers that write for their “Best Advice” collection.
You can now also publish blogs to LinkedIn on its publishing platforms. You can use this blog to set yourself up as an industry leader in the LinkedIn community as well as link back to more relevant content on your own website, thus bringing traffic to your site.
Takeaway
The key to bringing in organic leads from social media is all about standing out and being different. If you can set yourself apart and make people look at your post for more than the average second or two as they’re scrolling through the news feed then you’re golden. Just take these tips and use them or adapt them to see what works for your business.
