Three years ago, only 8% of LinkedIn users were connecting on a mobile device. Now in 2014, 43% of unique visits to LinkedIn come through mobile. Because of this shift, LinkedIn has created a richer mobile profile experience for users.
The new mobile profile focuses on relationships. LinkedIn has made updates so you can quickly get the key information you would want to know about someone. The updates also help to tell your story by including more information and specifically what you have in common with others. This allows you to know more before you walk into a meeting, so you may be able to connect with the group more quickly.
Here is a quick look at the new features in the LinkedIn mobile app.
1. Enhanced “in common” section
When you look up any connection on LinkedIn on mobile, there is a new “in common” section that shows what you share with others. “In common” may show where you and another connection went to the same college or are a member of the same LinkedIn group. By having this as a resource, professionals can now learn more about their connections in order to help them in real work situations.
“Your LinkedIn Profile is your professional identity of record,” Charlton Soesanto, mobile product manager at LinkedIn, wrote in a blog post. “Your new profile helps you tell your story to other professionals when they’re looking for you on the go.”
2. Influencer and self-published posts on profile
The updated mobile app now has an area that shows your most recent influence or self-published posts. This helps your connections see what you are sharing. It allows you to share your story and expertise on-the-go.
3. Learn how people found your profile
The app also gives you contextual information when you visit the “who’s viewed your profile” page. It can now tell you how other users found you— for example, via search, a mutual connection or “someone similar to you.”
4. Stronger mobile image
LinkedIn has also updated a variety of sections on your profile in order to make the best first impression possible. The following sections have been enhanced or added to improve your profile: “People also viewed” section, company logos, recommendations, duration of employment, interests and endorsements.
The new LinkedIn mobile app is available by downloading the latest version for both Android and iPhone devices in English.
LinkedIn is moving towards the “mobile first” mentality as more and more people are accessing digital resources via mobile devices. By thinking mobile first, we are able to focus and simplify what’s most important for the user experience. We see this same mentality in responsive website design for many of our clients.
