Stay Focused on the End Result

Focus on where you are going to
not on what you are going through!

When you begin to establish your success glide path, look at the finish line, the end state. The results are what will keep you in line. As I have stated before the road to success is not easy. There are construction detours, traffic jams and even accidents, all are meant to distract you from your desired goals. On your road trip to success you will need to be able to see the forest in the midst of the trees. Staying focused on the results will guide you through to your destination.

Here is an example:

During college there were many challenges. The lack of money was always a constant concern for me. I received a small monetary allotment of $100.00 a month through my ROTC scholarship. In the early 90’s this was not a lot of money. During my senior year of college a portion of the first month’s allotment was needed to finish paying for textbooks. The combined purchase of the books and food left me with sixty-five cents, which, needed to last for three weeks.

After two weeks the food was running out and there was no money for laundry so I went home for weekend. While at home the purpose was to wash clothes and eat a nourishing hot meal. I returned to school with two boxes of cereal, milk and the sixty-five cents. Things were working out with only one week left to receive the next month’s allotment. People often ask when I tell the story, “Why didn’t you ask someone for money?” The truth was pride. My parents had sacrificed enough and asking them just did not feel right and all of my friends were broke as well.

During that month I just thought about graduating because that was my ultimate goal. Working to that end was the only thing that mattered. Nothing was going to throw me off course not even having to eat cereal for breakfast lunch and dinner. The year started off rocky but ended successfully. Staying focused paid off. I graduated with honors and received my commission into the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant.

When you fell like giving up that’s when you need to tap into your REAL Power by focusing on the end result, it will help you make it through the challenging times.
