2012′s hit worldwide song Gangnam Style has just broken a new record: 2 billion views on YouTube.
If you don’t remember it (embedded below) the song features K-Pop star PSY singing about the Gangnam District of Seoul, South Korea with dance moves that include “Invisible Horse.”
The song itself went to number one in over 30 countries globally and is credited as taking K-Pop to a worldwide audience.
The video holds a range of records predating its new 2 billion view record.
- Most viewed K-pop video on YouTube
- Most liked video on YouTube – On September 13, 2012, it overtook “Party Rock Anthem” by LMFAO upon receiving 1.57 million “likes”, delivering the video a place in the Guinness World Records
- Most viewed video on YouTube – On November 24, 2012, it overtook “Baby” by Justin Bieber after receiving more than 803 million views.
- First video in Internet history to be viewed more than a billion times– On December 21, 2012, it acquired its billionth view.
At the time of writing the counter on the song reads 2,003,507,621 views.
