Are you frustrated by the lack of traffic to your site?
You were told over-and-over that content is king. So, you spent hours researching, writing, adding, and formatting new content.
Then, nothing changed. Still no traffic. But, why?
You have done everything right, except you missed a big one.
Content promotion.
No matter how great your content is, you still need to promote it. Even great content requires systematic promotion.
I want to show you what it takes to promote your content, so your hard work was not a waste of time.
Guest Post
I know you just spent time creating content on your own site, and I am telling you to guest post on someone else’s site. Guest posting is super valuable to you for two reasons:
- It drives traffic back to your site.
- It helps you interact with the readers of the site. You can grow your network and grow your network of influence.
If you look at high traffic websites, many of them became popular through active guest blogging.
Expert Roundups
Expert roundups are among the most powerful content promotion strategies. It is a form of content curation where you link to selected content. It is important to identify websites with significant readership. It is also important that the site is, at least in some way, related to your industry.
You could perform searches like “expert roundup” + your niche
or
“weekly link roundup” + your niche
or
“link roundup” + target keyword
Once you have identified at least 50 websites reach out and suggest your content. Don’t expect all of them to welcome you with open arms. It also helps if you contact those with the more recently publish dates. The more recently they created the roundup the more likely will they want to add your content. When you reach out to these sites, make sure that you know something about the site and not just send the same email to all. It helps if you know what the site is about and you can reference some of its content.
Link Poaching
A great way to build new links to your content is to find websites that have linked to similar content. Once you have identified these sites reach out to them and recommend them to your content.
Open Site Explorer is a great free tool you can search for backlinks.
Step 1 is to identify topics relevant to yours.
Step 2 is to copy the URL of the top result. The top result will most likely have a lot links pointing to it.
Step 3 Use a backlink checker like Open Site Explorer, to identify inbound links. This will give you a list of URLs that link to the page. You can reach out to each site and encourage them to link to your content. In your email explain how it would benefit their readers.
Actively Comment
Blog commenting is a great way to build your network and get inbound links. The most important step here is to identify relevant websites that allow commenting, mostly blogs or sites with active blogs.
It is important to do this regularly, so you have to limit the number of sites. I recommend you stick to the 10 most relevant sites to your niche. It is also crucial the the sites are popular sites with a lot of active readers and commenters. Sites that have 20 plus comments on their blog posts would work.
Make sure that you actually read the posts you are commenting on. Also, leave detailed responses. A one sentence comment like “Great article!” will not make a very good impression.
