Need an amazing homepage explainer video? Read on!

Your homepage is often the first impression you make on new customers – so obviously, you want it to be great! One of the best ways to do this is with an amazing homepage explainer video.

Studies have found that the average internet user spends 88% more time on a website with video, and with customer attention spans being shorter than ever, that 88% could really help you out!

In this article, we’re going to talk about 7 companies with amazing homepage explainer videos. But we’re going to be avoiding the big hitters, like: Dollar Shave Club, Crazy Egg, and Poo Pourri. Viral success like that achieved by these videos is a rare exception, and there are plenty of amazing explainer videos out there that haven’t had such widespread recognition.

Let’s take a look…

1. Jib

Jib is a design and advertising agency in Toronto. Their nautical themed explainer video is clear and concise. It explains the problem (getting your product in front of your customer) and solution (their company) in just over 60 seconds, using the ocean as a metaphor throughout.

The video is unusual in style – a blend of paper cut out animation and kinetic typography. But this is exactly what makes it amazing! It’s not often that you see a video in this style, and for that reason it stands out and grabs the attention of visitors to this homepage. The catchy background music also helps to keep people watching!

2. AnchorPoint Security

AnchorPoint Security is a Premier Managed Security Services Provider, so you’d forgive them for having a very corporate, straight-laced video. But when do corporate videos make an impact?

Never!

So, AnchorPoint thought outside the box and came to Wyzowl to get an animated explainer video for their homepage that includes exploding coconuts, cyber monsters, and a reference to the movie Castaway!

What they ended up with is an awesome video that conveys their message clearly and watches more like an action movie than an explainer.

3. SpeakOn Chat

SpeakOn Chat is a mobile messaging app loaded with unique features, like self-destructing messages.

Their homepage explainer video is hilarious. They put animals in human situations to explain the features of their app in a humorous way – for example, the llama and penguin messaging each other to show that the app can translate into different languages.

The animation is fun, colourful, and gets their message across in just over 60 seconds – three perfect ingredients for an amazing homepage explainer video!

4. AirBnB

AirBnB allows people from all over the world to rent out or stay in unique places – giving tourists a local feel and hosts an opportunity to make some extra cash.

The live action explainer video on their homepage is a little lengthy, but this allows AirBnB to present the viewer with a more comprehensive view of what using their service is like for both hosts and tourists. Safety is a big concern of people using AirBnB, so it’s important for the video to be comprehensive.

As well as giving viewers a sense of what it’s really like to use AirBnB, the video is littered with beautiful, colourful footage from all over the world.

5. GoPro

GoPro is an American manufacturer of action cameras. Their homepage video is by far the shortest on this list (15 seconds!), but it’s also the one that I have watched the most!

The video, filmed entirely with one of GoPro’s products, is fast-paced, powerful, and motivational. The impactful music is the only sound in the video, allowing the footage to do all of the talking. And the only text on screen is Be a HERO – adding to the motivational feel. All of these elements teamed together make this an amazing homepage explainer video!

6. Blendtec

Blendtec‘s homepage explainer video is like a blend (pun intended – sorry!) of three user testimonials and a product demo.

When it comes to products like blenders, it helps to actually see the product in action before you buy it. The Blendtec video does one better than this by showing three different uses for the blender: fuel (for athletes), nurture (for parents and children), and create (for professionals).

7. Always

Always is a brand of feminine hygiene products, but, as you can tell from their homepage explainer video, they are also much more than that.

Always knows how to tug on the heartstrings with their marketing campaigns, and this video is no different. The video, using real girls (or very convincing actors!) is thought provoking and empowering for the target audience of the brand: women.
