Operator tie up is the way forward for the popular mobile messaging apps. In an interview with CNBC, Neeraj Arora, business development head, WhatsApp, world’s most popular messaging app had shared the same. The same has been implemented too, as reports from Firspost state that starting 21st November, all Nokia Asha 501 and Asha OS inline with the recently announced Nokia Asha 500, Asha 502 and Asha 503 users can download instant messaging service, Whatsapp, through a software update.

Nokia has further stated that the updated software with WhatsApp will come pre-installed in all new Nokia Asha 501 handsets and is set to hit stores on December 5, 2013. Existing users can update the software through an over-the-air update.

Additionally, the messaging service which is already available on other Asha phones, which now run on the older platform will have a new software update that would provide the Nokia’s Fastlane experience. The Asha Fastlane interface would have a smarter camera experience through ‘swipe’ and one-touch social sharing.

Sharing more about the Fastlane experience, Viral Oza, Director Marketing, Nokia India shared, “The updated software will offer Asha consumers with a more social experience, building on the previous Fastlane experience. The new interface comes with a single swipe camera, single touch share to Facebook and ability to track Facebook comments and likes right from your Fastlane screen.”

Other features that Fastlane will come with are a new interactive alarm, improved privacy, the ability to show full notifications or just notification icons on the Lock screen, limiting what others can see. The Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync service allows you to keep on top of work emails, adding to the business skills of the Asha 501.

The Nokia Asha 501 update that is all set to roll out will provide a spike to the already growing presence of WhatsApp which has more than 300M monthly active users. WhatsApp is also the most popular messaging app in the country having recently surpassed the 25M mark. Being preinstalled in the devices makes it even more lucrative.

The news caught up the excitement of tweeps on Twitter too, as Nokia India – which has more than 144K followers on Twitter – started a contest around it.

We all love SMS lingo. Tell us the weirdest and unique lingo you use while chatting on #WhatsappOnAsha501 and win a Nokia Asha 501!

As a result the hashtag #WhatsappOnAsha501 has been trending at the top of Twitter India Trends. Rational way to create more buzz and extend the reach.
