Is your blog optimized for Pinterest? Are you using Pinterest to promote your blog?
Blog owners should seriously consider driving more website traffic with Pinterest as Pinterest is known for its ability to drive visitors.
It drives more traffic than Reddit, Youtube, Linkedin, Google+ and MySpace. If your blog runs on WordPress, optimizing it for Pinterest should be extremely easy as there are several plugins that can help you with this. In fact, there are scores and scores of them. To help you find the most useful ones I have written this post which contains 4 WordPress plugins and a few more I have used (and would like to use) to optimize my blog for Pinterest…
1. Digg Digg:
I have written about adding share buttons to your blog posts and pages at least five times on this blog as I think it is the requisite to building a great blog. A study by BrightEdge found that pages with share buttons receive seven times more shares than those without. Therefore it is a basic necessity for you to add the Pin It button to your blog to get more people to share your posts and pages in order to increase traffic.
An easy way to do this is by using the Digg Digg plugin as it can help you automatically add a Pin It button before, after and even on the left side of the blog post or page as you can see on this post (the one you are reading right now). Digg Digg also lets you manually place the button. You can add other share buttons like (Facebook) Share, (Twitter) Tweet, (StumbleUpon) Submit, etc. using Digg Digg too which can help you receive shares and traffic from different social networks.
Another popular WordPress plugin that is similar to Digg Digg is Flare. If you would like a plugin that lets you only add the ‘Pin It’ button to your blog, you can try out Pinterest “Pin It” Button.
2. Pinterest Pin It Button for Images:
Another great way to encourage people to pin from your WordPress blog, is by installing the Pinterest Pin It Button for Images plugin. This plugin adds a pin it button on every image on your blog. The button can be noticed when you scroll over the image. I have installed it on this blog. To see the button just scroll over any image on this post, you will notice that a Pin It button appears at the top.
The advantage of this button is that it reminds people that the images they are observing can be pinned. People can press the button and share their favourite images to view them later and get their followers to see them too. To get more people to pin more images from your blog add this plugin to your website.
Another plugin that does a similar job is Pinterest Image Pin. When you install this plugin it places a Pin It button below every image. If you wouldn’t like the button to appear on the image, you can try using this plugin. It also lets you add a follow button below every image.
3. Social Media Widget:
The above WordPress plugins can be a great way to drive more website traffic. But it shouldn’t end there. You need to look for ways to convert your website traffic into leads and followers and a great way to covert website traffic into followers is by using the Social Media Widget.
With this widget, you can display a Pinterest icon on your blog widget area, clicking on which will take the reader to your Pinterest page so that they can check out your pins and follow you. You can learn more about this plugin by reading my post 15 Indispensable WordPress Plugins. This plugin can let you add social media follow buttons for almost every social network.
Another plugin that helps you add follow buttons to your blog is the Pinterest “Follow” Button.
4. Pinterest badge:
Another WordPress plugin that does the same job as the Social Media Widget, but can be more effective is Pinterest Badge as it is bigger and displays your latest pins thereby making it conspicuous. It also displays the number of followers you have. All these features can help your Pinterest page attract more followers.
A similar plugin you could use is Pretty Pinterest Pins. A great feature of this plugin is that you can display pins from specific boards only. You could also display your latest pins from your profile and boards using the profile and board widgets offered by Pinterest. I have explained how to install these widgets in my post 6 Ways Businesses Can Make the Most of the Latest Pinterest Updates.
