POP!! Happy New Year.

Celebrating the New Year brings a time of reflection and renewal. How invigorating to be able to start fresh. Resolutions fly off the tongue. Excitement ensues for the year to come. Changes.

New directions! You are inspired!! Feels great, doesn’t it??

HOLD ON!!

Why is this saved for the END of the year? You are a work in progress. Constantly evolving, growing, changing; like a chameleon.

Instead of New Year’s Resolutions, consider goals. Daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly. Alongside the goals, you can establish habits which are long lasting and life changing.

Most resolutions end up dissolving after a few months. Sure, there were great intentions and motivation but when it is a once a year review, it makes it more difficult to stick with.

A prime example is exercise and a gym membership. In all my years of lifting at a fitness center, I see this phenomenon every December. Researcher Richard Wiseman says “88% of all those set resolutions from half of America and probably lots of other people in the world fail.”

You might be sick and tired of some things in your life or your business, but when you make “resolutions” out of desperation and frustration, they are even more challenging to maintain. You may deeply want them. Feel so passionate about change and are ready to commit, but think seriously about what you want and why.

“Of those who make resolutions, a mere 8 percent (yes, 8 percent!) achieve them.” University of Scranton
