LinkedIn does not have an official presence in China with a localized language site, but the service already has more than four million members in the country. Seeing this growth, the world’s largest professional network recently appointed Derek Shen, the founder and former CEO of Chinese Groupon-like group-buying site Nuomi, as the president of LinkedIn China. At the same time Derek also becomes the VP at LinkedIn.

In his previous role, Derek had been the vice president of Renren and CEO of Nuomi, the group-buying service under Renren. He left the company after Baidu announced to buy 59% stake in Nuomi in 2013.

Derek’s experience in the Chinese Internet space will definitely help the company to make a further strong base in the country which holds lots of potential. Talking to TNW, LinkedIn stated that, “Derek’s extensive experience in the China Internet space positions him well to lead our efforts to explore what makes the most sense for LinkedIn, our members and clients in China. Ultimately, we hope to be able to help create economic opportunities for professionals in the country, including matching talented individuals with job and business prospects.”

The move comes with no surprise as the LinkedIn Founder Reid Hoffman had earlier shared that the company is involved in the process of understanding the Chinese market and also acknowledged the importance of the Android ecosystem to China.

Apparently, the professional network is all set to open up its official presence in China in the near future, keeping a keen focus on mobile.
