The One Free WordPress Plugin That Makes A Blogger’s Life Much Easier

Alert – serious awesomeness ahead.

This free WordPress plugin is bound to make the lives of all bloggers much easier with a few clicks. Compared to any other plugin on the WordPress market, this one by far has the highest value, combining more than 30 different functions into one amazing piece of awesomeness.

Site stats, social sharing, notifications, subscriptions – you name it, the plugin does it. Wanna know what it is?

JetPack

From the creators of WordPress, JetPack is one of the most versatile and useful plugins on the market today, if not THE most useful.

Download the plugin here, and upload the zipped file to your WordPress site be accessing WP Admin >> Plugins >> Add New >> Upload.

In order to use JetPack, all one must do is connect their existing WordPress.com account and configure each function.

Here’s a quick look at what a few of the top functions.

Publicize

Starting from the top, the first option you’ll see is ‘Publicize.’ Publicize is a tool that connects your blog to the most popular social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Google+ and Path) and automatically uses the connection to post to your social profile every time you create a new post.

Adding the profile connection is super-easy; simply login, and allow the required permissions. It’s a great way to instantly start generating traffic, as soon as you publish your new post(s).

Notifications

Next up is ‘Notifications.’ Basically, JetPack notifies you every time a fellow WP user does anything related to your site (commenting, liking, reposting, etc.), or when someone you subscribed to creates a new post.

Nothing ground-breaking, but it’s a great way to keep track of your activity IF you’re an avid WP user. All the configuring required is connection to your WP account.

Site Stats

JetPack automatically installs a page in your admin dashboard to view your recent website stats. When you view the in-depth stats page, you’re greeted with a friendly little chart of your views in the past 7 days.

Further down the page, you can learn about referrers (a click from another site that lead to a page view on your own), search queries that resulted in a view, outbound link clicks and the top posts & pages.

A handy little tool when you don’t have the time to check up on Google Analytics.

JetPack Comments

Fourth on the list is a smart little tool that allows viewers to comment on your website using either Twitter, Facebook, or their WordPress account.

It saves them the trouble of filling out their name, e-mail address and website – something that can only lead to greater activity and engagement levels in the long run.

JetPack Subscriptions

Probably my absolute favorite. Activating this creates a widget with a little box where viewers can enter their e-mail to subscribe to future updates. Enter in a title for your widget, a high-conversion call-to-action to get people to subscribe, and you’re done.

Every person who subscribes with their e-mail address (ONLY e-mail addies, no name field allowed) will be notified every time you create a new post. A great way to grow a loyal following and increase your return visitors.

Post By E-Mail

Post by E-Mail is a tool that’s rapidly gaining popularity. Activation of this allows you to use any e-mail client to publish your post – you don’t have to be logged into WP Admin.

Simply send an e-mail containing the post text to a custom e-mail address they provide you with, and it gets posted. Personally, I don’t use it as I like to insert themes, headers, etc. into each of my blog posts. For the busy blogger, it’s a reasonably useful tool.

Social Sharing

JetPack wouldn’t have been complete without some form of social sharing. They provide you with a clean-looking, easily set up social sharing widget that will be automatically embedded into the bottom of each post.

Even though it’s a handy tool, I personally like to use dedicated social sharing plugins for a cleaner, more professional look. In a pinch, this will do.

After the Deadline Spelling & Grammar

This proofreading service offers contextual spelling and grammar checking from within the WordPress post-editing area. It takes approximately 2-5 minutes to set up. However, don’t let that deter you from staying error-free in your posts. Quite handy.

Omnisearch

A nice little single search box that allows you to search your website for keywords. It supports posts, pages, comments and plugins. Another great features is the fact that it can be integrated with the use of other plugins as well.

Gravatar Hovercards

A slightly newer tool. Basically, it allows a small pop-up whenever a user hovers his/her mouse over a commenter’s gravatar profile. Not a bad tool to have on hand, although it may end up driving traffic away from your website.

Contact Form

Your basic, no-nonsense contact form. It supports name, e-mail address, text area, checkboxes, multiple choice and other entries in the form. Setting up the form is quick and painless. Simply create the form from the edit post page, and code will automatically be input to support the form. I use it for all my contact needs.

WP.me Shortlinks.

This tool automatically creates a wp.me shortlink of your post/page permalink that can be shared. It’s a great way to reduce the character count on your tweets. The short link can be viewed whenever you click from the edit post page.

Summing Up

In short, JetPack is probably the most amazing plugin you’ll find in the WordPress database. It improves performance, does amazing things to your blog functionality, and helps you track everything faster and easier.

Why aren’t you using it?
