Global Video Marketing: 3 Easy Tips for Gaining a Worldwide Audience image videomarketing

If you’re looking for ways to improve your video viewership, there are a number of simple changes that you can make with little time or investment. The real key to this lies in the fact that there is a global viewer base, so it easily follows that to have good results with your video, you must market to that global audience. Read on for many tips and tricks for ensuring successful global video marketing for your products and/ or website.

Start with Your Target Market

The often repeated saying goes, “begin with the end in mind,” but with global video marketing, begin with your audience in mind. First, you have to know the audience viewing your videos. Who is the target audience for your videos and are you reaching them? If not, who is viewing your video in terms of their interests, needs and locations? Once you know you audience, you can begin to look at factors such as language, translation, customs and more.

Reach Your Audience

Once you know your audience, you can begin to better reach them by ensuring your video is in the correct language or is subtitled. To begin, you must first transcribe your video in the language it is presented in. Once you have a solid and accurate transcription, there are several inexpensive options for translation in order to caption your video in another language.

YouTube has an auto translate feature built into the site. When you upload English captions with your video, YouTube will automatically translate your captions into any one of several dozen languages. Another inexpensive option is to use Google Translate, again after you have uploaded the subtitles into your video. You can then create new video with the different language subtitles and allow your audience to choose which language of subtitled video they would like to view.

Another option is more expensive, but results in a more professional appearance and that is to redo the videos into several different languages and repost them. Unless you are personally a language expert, it’s likely that you will have to hire a translator to translate and subsequently narrate the video to be reproduced. This can be time consuming and expensive, especially if you are seeking to translate the video into more than one other language, but it does by far result in the most professional and clean end product for your viewers.

Make Your Video Stand Out

There are literally millions of videos to choose from on any given topic and according to current statistics, more than 100 million internet users view videos online each day. Much of this traffic is from non-English speaking countries and so the benefits of subtitling or translating your videos are very easy to see. Nonetheless, aside from doing that, there are still several other things that are quick and easy but will make a very big impact on your viewership.

For starters, set your video up for keyword searches in various languages. This is one item that should not be left to auto-translation to do. If someone in another country has to translate their keyword into your language to search for your video, chances are that they aren’t going to make that extra effort, so you will have to. Tagging your videos with keywords in other languages is something you can do for very little money, but will yield big results in your search rankings and video views.

Next, know that in many countries, high speed internet is a wish, not a reality. So, having a video that doesn’t require the bandwidth that it does in the US can be very beneficial to that international audience. Do some research on which countries have a slower internet speed on average and be sure that your videos in that language or captioned in their language don’t require a high speed connection to view them fully.

There is a growing school of thought that says that less is more in terms of speaking in your videos. In fact, there is growing evidence that videos that have little or no speech actually get higher viewership because the message is clear to the audience even without the speaking. It is undoubtedly more difficult to pass on a message without use of language, but it is becoming increasingly more common and popular as a means to communicate globally.

Use these tips to keep improving your videos while watching your viewership statistics regularly. With time and a conscious effort towards reaching new viewers, your videos will gain the global audience you are seeking to achieve.
