Kevin Smith has confirmed that Clerks 3 finally has financing, thanks to his box office bomb Tusk. Smith says even though Tusk, starring Justin Long and Michael Parks, is a failure in the eyes of the media and the box office, it is the bridge to make Clerks 3 a reality.

Smith has been in a production crisis with the threequel, particularly with financing part, which the Weinsteins passed on funding this summer.

“A year and change ago I was desperately trying to get ‘Clerks III’ made for the 20th anniversary and that desperation — I must have reeked of it because I couldn’t f–cking find money and s–t,” says Smith during a podcast, discussing the whole ordeal with making the film.

Kevin Smith goes onto say that he failed into making Clerks 3. “But it was ‘Tusk,’ people going ‘Holy f–k, what else do you have?’ and I was like ‘Clerks III’ and they’re like ‘done’. So, everybody that’s like, ‘He failed, he failed,’ I’m like ‘Thank you, I failed into doing ‘Clerks III,” he says defending the box office blunder.

Clerks 3 will mark the return of Dante (Brian O’Halloran) and Randal (Jeff Anderson), who grew up a bit in the second film. Jason Mewes and Smith will also reprise the dynamic duo Jay and Silent Bob.

Clerks 2 saw Dante proposing to Becky, played by Rosario Dawson, and the crew reopening the Quick Stop and RST Video. The threequel’s plot will follow the thrills and spills of parenting, something Smith has become accustomed to with his daughter, Harley Quinn Smith.

There will be a subplot with RST Video and the age of downloading.

Kevin Smith’s Clerks 3 will actually see the light of day, thanks to the failure that is Tusk. For now, Smith is asking his fans to give walrus horror comedy a chance.
