How many ‘thank you‘ emails did you get this month in response to your email marketing, from actual prospects?
While you’re thinking about that… How many of your emails have been reported as spam, junked, unsubscribed from…?
Is it unusual for you to receive a “thank you” in response to a marketing email?
(certainly, there have been less polite two-word responses to marketing emails, than “thank you”…)
So, why don’t we get these nice emails all the time, then?
One reason is the confusion that can occur when thinking about targeted email content.
Here is another question:
Which of these email choices would make targeted email marketing content?
- An email about who your company is
- An email about what your company does
- An email about your products/services
- An email about the awards your company has just won
- An email about something your target company is challenged by
What’s good to note first is YOU ARE NOT THE TARGET, therefore the targeted content you send to your prospect should not be about you. It should be about them.
This seems quite straightforward, but how often do you receive an email with a subject focused on the sender and not the prospect?
For example:
‘Find Out How Our Product/Service Will Help Your Business’
‘Have you watched our SEO videos on YouTube?’
‘Are You Excited About the Launch of Our New Product?’
Even if the body text offered some useful insight, based on the subject text, would you open these emails?
If you chose option E “An email about something your target company is challenged by” then you could come up with subjects like:
‘Listen to this Great Podcast on How You Can Solve X’
‘How to Solve X in 10 Simple Steps’
‘Are You Excited About Learning How to Solve X’
The latter subjects deal with your prospect’s challenge ‘X’ which means your email subject line and content is targeted, and this means higher click-through rates for you.
