How Essentialist Are You When It Comes To Your Content Marketing?

Some people swear by an editorial calendar, some people can’t stop swearing at an editorial calendar every time they see they have missed yet another date and another deadline.

It’s not very motivational, unfortunately. We know how important good content is and we’ve all heard the adage “failing to plan is planning to fail” etc… etc… It’s all true, but – and it’s always a big BUT, if you don’t have the time or resources, or you’re struggling to make the time or find the resources, how are you going to get on with your essential content marketing like writing blogs?

It’s not easy (I’m not going to go off on one about “nobody ever said it was…” – how often have we heard that, and do the people asking not realise those kind of statements your parents presented you with on numerous occasions when you were a child are actually not going to help in any way or doing anything other than simply fuel the fires of frustration when you’re already missing important deadlines on your content marketing calendar..?*#!!! ahem…).

Moving on… what is the answer to the problem? Rereading this blog, so far, it seems to me that that it’s not creating content that’s really the issue it’s simply prioritising and working out what is an essential task. So, in the spirit of fun Friday here’s a little quiz for you to gain a bit more insight into how you do things and maybe it will highlight some ideas to help you get back on the content horse (the content horse?! …really? Please… it’s definitely the end of the week!)

This quiz is from Greg McKeown who, among other things, blogs for Harvard Business Review.

Greg says:

The Way of the Essentialist isn’t about getting more done in less time. It’s not about getting less done. It’s about getting only the right things done. It’s about challenging the core assumption of ‘we can have it all’ and ‘I have to do everything’ and replacing it with the pursuit of ‘the right thing, in the right way, at the right time’. It’s about regaining control of our own choices about where to spend our time and energies instead of giving others implicit permission to choose for us.
