Google+ is driving few but more engaged social referrals than Facebook and Twitter. No, it isn’t an April Fools Day prank but has surfaced in the findings of social discovery and sharing platform Shareaholic. In its report Shareaholic is examining engaged social referrals, reports TNW.
Here’s the breakdown (data is from September 2013 to February 2014) from Shareholic, which tracks 250 million users visiting its network of 200,000 publishers:
The findings state that even if Google+ drives very few referrals compared to its competitors, it has been found that the traffic it drives, is actually quite high on the quality scale.
Google+ users spend more than three minutes diving into links shared by their circles, view 2.45 pages during each visit, and bounce only 50.63 percent of the time. LinkedIn users meanwhile spend over two minutes on each link they click, view 2.23 pages with each visit, and bounce 51.28 percent of the time.
On the other hand, Twitter and Facebook see similar bounce rates (56.35 percent each), pages per visit (2.15 vs 2.03), and time on site (123.10 seconds vs 127.44 seconds).
Some of the other findings of the report are:
1. YouTube brings the most engaged traffic: lowest average bounce rate (43.19 percent), highest pages per visit (2.99), and the longest visit duration (227.82 seconds).
2. StumbleUpon drives the least engaged referrals and Reddit has the highest bounce rate meaning the Reddit users are most likely to abandon sites.
Earlier Shareaholic had released another report covering referral traffic data from the eight largest social media sites in Q4 2013. Facebook was the champion with its referral traffic share growing from 10.37 percent to 15.44 percent.
If you believe in quality engagement then you shouldn’t be spending time on Facebook.
