At a Values Voters Summit Friday, Sarah Palin took the podium to talk about, seemingly, truth in media and politics. As she called out all those who speak against her and other conservatives, she also had a little verbal slip.
Don’t retreat.Reload with truth, which I know is an endangered species at 1400 Pennsylvania Avenue, anyway, truth.
Unfortunately for Governor Palin, the White House, to which she was presumably referring, is at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Of course, social media exploded with people mocking and joking about Palin’s slip of the lip.
Palin got White House address wrong, said 1400 Pennsylvania. She wasn't just one heartbeat from presidency, she was a couple blocks away.

@SarahPalinUSA Every 5th grader knows the address to the White House. So U wanted to be VP of a hotel at 1400 Pennsylvania Avenue. Priceless

Will some friend of John McCain's please tell him because of, & according to Sarah Palin, he narrowly missed living at 1400 Penn. Avenue?

Another historic speech for Palin. This one will be known as the Gettysburg Change of Address :(

"Truth is an endangered species at 1400 Penn. Avenue." –@SarahPalinUSA at #VVS14. Here's what's at that address: http://ift.tt/YlIn0H

The former governor of Alaska even tweeted a joke about the incident herself:
Doggone it! That explains why my Christmas cards keeps getting returned! http://ift.tt/1BisZyR

Of course, verbal slips are a problem known to almost everyone who has ever made a speech, and especially to those who make them on a regular basis. Others were quick to remind that Sarah Palin isn’t the only politician to ever make a crucial blunder in talking about the country she so loves.
If you're going to make fun of "1400 Pennsylvania Ave", don't forget who said he's visited 57 states.

to everyone filling my mentions, you can poke fun of Palin for 1400 Penn AND Obama for 57 states. They’re both stupid/innocent.

Of course, while these slip-ups make excellent joke fodder, they certainly don’t prove that Palin is stupid. (Detractors would say she proves that elsewhere; supporters would say she’s proven the opposite.) Both ’1400 Pennsylvania Avenue’ and ’57 states’ only prove that politicians, like anyone else whose job includes a great deal of speaking to crowds, will sometimes find their mouth moving faster than their brain, and will say something wrong, silly, or stupid.
There’s nothing wrong with taking a moment out to laugh at a minor public blunder, but (whichever side of the political stream you’re on) it’s the rest of what Sarah Palin (or any politician) says, besides the errors, that we should be focusing on.
