Sarah Palin’s ’1400 Pennsylvania Avenue’ Slip Spurs Humor, Mockery

At a Values Voters Summit Friday, Sarah Palin took the podium to talk about, seemingly, truth in media and politics. As she called out all those who speak against her and other conservatives, she also had a little verbal slip.

Don’t retreat.Reload with truth, which I know is an endangered species at 1400 Pennsylvania Avenue, anyway, truth.

Unfortunately for Governor Palin, the White House, to which she was presumably referring, is at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Of course, social media exploded with people mocking and joking about Palin’s slip of the lip.

The former governor of Alaska even tweeted a joke about the incident herself:

Of course, verbal slips are a problem known to almost everyone who has ever made a speech, and especially to those who make them on a regular basis. Others were quick to remind that Sarah Palin isn’t the only politician to ever make a crucial blunder in talking about the country she so loves.

Of course, while these slip-ups make excellent joke fodder, they certainly don’t prove that Palin is stupid. (Detractors would say she proves that elsewhere; supporters would say she’s proven the opposite.) Both ’1400 Pennsylvania Avenue’ and ’57 states’ only prove that politicians, like anyone else whose job includes a great deal of speaking to crowds, will sometimes find their mouth moving faster than their brain, and will say something wrong, silly, or stupid.

There’s nothing wrong with taking a moment out to laugh at a minor public blunder, but (whichever side of the political stream you’re on) it’s the rest of what Sarah Palin (or any politician) says, besides the errors, that we should be focusing on.
