The Walking Dead is a wildly successful television show, but it’s not really that good of a show. I’m constantly seeing people complain about the show, but they still tune in every single week to see what happens next. Wtf?
The midseason finale is coming up tomorrow, so you can bet that a ton of people are going to be tuning in to see what happens. Yet again, the Governor is taking his army to the prison and he’s going to try to take it over… You know, the same exact thing that happened last season.
Anyways, I’m going to go over 8 things that I definitely think could make the show a whole lot better.
Less Hershel
How in the hell is Hershel still walking around on one leg and giving everyone life lessons? It’s annoying. We just saw a deadly virus sweep through the prison and kill off a bunch of irrelevant characters while Hershel walks around helping these people. Hell, Hershel must have a beast of an immune system for a 60+ year old man. Meanwhile, healthy 20-year-olds are being devastated by the flu.
Less Characters
There are just too many characters and they’re not going to invest time into building any of them up, unless they’re going to immediately kill them off in the same episode (see my section on killing characters). I’d rather have quality characters than a surplus of irrelevant characters that are just there for no reason.
Quit Dragging it On
A whole season takes place on a farm. A whole other season and a half takes place in a prison. There’s too much talk and not enough action. The man himself, George Romero, said that The Walking Dead is basically just a soap opera. That’s fine and all, but men watch this show, too. As a man, we need more action.
Quit Killing the Best Characters
The Walking Dead is great at taking good characters, making you hate them and then killing them off. Often times, these characters would be your biggest asset in a zombie apocalypse setting.
Shane
Shane was a bad ass and he wasn’t afraid to go a little nuts and beat some ass. Also, he was very conning with his way of doing things. By now, he would have already killed the governor and been done with it. He did what it took to survive in a zombie apocalypse, no matter how inhumane it made him look. Shane would survive at all costs and he would make sure the group survived, as well. He wasn’t one for taking unnecessary risks or chances. He took the most logical route for survival.
Merle Dixon
Merle was a lot like Shane. He was a sneaky snake and didn’t give a damn. Him and Daryl would have worked well together and kicked some zombie ass. He did whatever it took to survive, hence why he had only one hand. Hell, he went to killer the Governor by himself and ended up killing a ton of insignificant characters in the process. Imagine if he had a little bit of help on his mission. The Governor would have been dead by now, but the writers focused too much on making Merle an unlikable character and killed him off.
More Physical Fighting or Betrayals
This show needs more emotion and I’m not talking about emotion that’s represented by facial expressions. There’s too much talking in this show and there’s too many negative facial expressions. People are capable of doing some crazy stuff out of anger that they normally wouldn’t do otherwise. Let’s see more of that. Maybe someone could do something to screw the entire group over, because they’re so pissed.
Bigger Budget
The budget on the shower has been massively reduced since the very first season and the show has suffered ever since. A whole season takes places on a freaking farm and the next season and a half takes place in a prison. They’re doing this, because it’s cheaper and easier to shoot in one location. Also, it’s cheaper and easier to shoot indoors rather than shooting outdoors.
Better Writers
This show is in desperate need of some new writers. We just saw the Governor come into a camp and he immediately killed off two of the camp’s leaders. None of the people in the camp cared to think that this new and mysterious man with one eye rolls into their camp and then all of a sudden less than a week later two of their leaders are killed off and the mysterious one-eyed man is the new leader? Give me a break.
This is just an example of some of the horrible writing in this show. The writers are just hoping we don’t notice things like that.
Kill Characters That We Don’t Want to See Die
This is something that every show needs to do in order to shake things up and keep viewers on their toes. Who has died on the show that you actually cared about? Every death on The Walking Dead you could see coming from a mile away and is totally forgettable after it happened. The writers need to stop building up the death of a notable character for a whole damn season.
Shane:
For instance, we all knew that Shane was going to die. The whole love triangle thing was getting old, there was a lot tension and the writers put a lot of time into making you hate Shane. No one cared when Shane died. If anything, they were kind of happy.
Merle Dixon
This is another character that most people absolutely hated, so not many people cared when Merle died. If anything, Daryl’s Dixon’s sad face evoked more emotion out of audiences than the death of a character.
Lori
Rick’s wife, Lori, was another character that people were happy to see die. By the time she died, no one could relate to her at all and she was one of the most annoying characters on television.
T-Dog
People completely forgot that T-Dog existed by the time he died. You could literally go for a whole episode without ever seeing him or hearing from him.
Dale
This is the only death that some people may have actually cared about.
Anyways, you can tell when characters are about to die. For instance, some people will go for episodes without ever talking or getting a back story. Suddenly, in one episode, they’ll be given a back story or some speaking parts and they’ll be immediately killed off. That’s how predictable and shitty the writers are with this show. They try to build up an irrelevant character 2 minutes before killing him in hopes that will evoke some sort of emotion out of the viewers. — Remember the inmate that was talking with Carol while they were trying to secure the prison right before he took a bullet to the head courtesy of the Governor? You rarely heard the man speak a word before that episode.
Andrea
Andrea was the dumbest of the group. Hell, she’s the one that fell for the Governor’s bullshit for so long. Plus, she had man hands. Ewwwwwwww.
