Sharknado 2 will hit the Syfy channel on July 30, and an announcement from The Today Show had us checking to make sure it wasn’t still April Fools.
Today, the hit NBC morning show posted a tweet confirming that hosts Matt Lauer and Al Roker will be in the sequel:
We can officially announce that @MLauer & @AlRoker will have cameos in #Sharknado2!
— TODAY (@TODAYshow) April 2, 2014
While we can’t say for certain what both will be up to in the epic TV movie, we can only guess that Lauer will be hosting some talk show while Al Roker is in the field talking about the strange weather, and suddenly gets ate by a flying shark.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to the news:
@TODAYshow @MLauer @alroker LOL – I guess I need to catch up on Sharknado 1!

@TODAYshow @MLauer @alroker Pretty sure that's the best tweet we'll read all day. The Internet can go home now. #Sharknado2

Originally, Sharknado 2 was scheduled for July 31, but Syfy had a change of heart and moved it to one day earlier on a Wednesday.
Film Editor Vashi Nedomansky teased the new release date on Twitter this past weekend:
Finishing first week of editing my new gig.
Just got our release date. There will be blood.

Aside from Matt Lauer and Al Roker, here are some other notable cameos:
- Biz Markie
- Kelly Oxford
- Salt-N-Pepa’s “Pepa” (Sandra Denton)
- Robert Klein
- Pro Wrestler/Olympic gold medal winner Kurt Angle
- Kelly Osbourne
- Judd Hirsch
- Andy Dick
- Judah Friedlander
Last year’s Sharknado premiere drew in 1.4 million viewers, topping two million in its encore, and with all the buzz surrounding Sharknado 2, it could blow those numbers out of the water.
