“Colbert Report” has been a staple on Comedy Central since the show first aired on Comedy Central on October 17, 2005. Since, the show’s host, Stephen Colbert, has parodied the newscasts of right wing talk show host Bill O’Reilly and has presented the news with his trademark satirical style.

Colbert has created his own style of commentary for the character he portrays, but the character of Stephen Colbert might stay with the comedy network. In 2015, it was announced that when late night talk show host David Letterman retires from “The Late Show”, Colbert would be taking the helm. It was announced on the same day that Colbert’s Comedy Central show would be put out to pasture in late 2014.

“Colbert Report” will see its final episode air on December 18, 2014. To this news, we give a wag of the finger as we don’t like to see good things come to an end. A tip of our hat goes out to David Letterman for knowing when to retire (unlike Leno who left his show and snatched it back from Conan O’Brien).

In August, Colbert revealed to “TVLine”: “Twenty-four hours before the show ends, I’ll probably be a wreck. But right now, I’m just really enjoying doing the show as much as I ever have.”

In his “TVLine” interview, Colbert revealed that perhaps he has been “phoning it in” all of this time, but also said that he is nervous for the transition, but loves a challenge:

Colbert Nation, will you make the switch to CBS when “The Colbert Report” no longer airs and Colbert is taking the reins of the late night legacy left behind by Letterman?

“Colbert Report” has followed “The Daily Show” in making Stephen Colbert a household name and it would be a shame to lose that comedy genius in the move to late night television. Will you tune in for his first shows just to see how he fares or will you tune in for the long haul? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
