Burt Reynolds is auctioning off statues like his Golden Globe, along with a multitude of other memorabilia, in order to combat his recent financial woes.

Reynolds, one of the biggest movie stars in the world back in the 70s, has been fighting a financial uphill battle ever since his infamous divorce from Loni Anderson in the early 90s. A long string of poor investments forced Reynolds to declare bankruptcy in 1996. That bankruptcy case was closed in 2007.

However, his problems would not go away in 2007. in 2011, his Florida home faced foreclosure as bankers claimed he had not made a payment on the home in a year. Reynolds has been trying to sell the extravagant home since 2011, originally putting it on the market for $8 million. It has since dropped to $4.9 million.

The mounting financial issues for Reynolds have driven him to create a catalogue of memorabilia and items to auction off in hopes of getting his head above water. Reynolds wrote a foreword to the catalogue, saying “I’ve collected so many things that I truly adore but at this stage in my life I find it very difficult to manage them all. The fact of the matter is that it truly is the time to downsize and for these items that I have loved over the years find new homes where they can be cared for and appreciated.”

Included in the auction is Reynolds’ Golden Globe statue he won in 1997 for his role in Boogie Nights, a performance that was supposed to put the actor’s career back on track, as well as the jacket and shirt he wore in Smokey and the Bandit II, boots from Striptease, and a sombrero from the film 100 Rifles.

Aside from movie memorabilia, Burt Reynolds is also auctioning off his customized Dodge Ram and a carriage gifted to Reynolds upon his marriage to Anderson. All in all, there are over 600 items.

The Burt Reynolds auction is being held by Julien’s at the Palms in Las Vegas on December 11 and 12.
