A Frozen Sequel has been confirmed, at least that’s the word according to Idina Menzel, who rose to prominent fame for her voice role of Queen Elsa in the first film. Speculation about a sequel has been swirling online for months, though there is now substantial reason to believe that it is actually happening.
When asked about rumors of a sequel in a Telegraph interview, Menzel spilled the beans and uttered what was really music to the ears of millions of fans. In her own words, Menzel said “That they’re all in the works.”
The 43-year-old actress and singer is expected to reprise her voice role for Elsa, though she has shot down gossip about appearing for a Frozen musical stage show. Since the mega success of the Disney animated film, Menzel has become a household name. She fondly recounts being spotted and approached by two young girls who recognized her as the voice of Elsa and some of the film’s award winning soundtrack.
“I remember some of those classic Disney songs from movies, and you knew the character but you didn’t know the person behind the song. But this is different, this is weird,”
With a Frozen sequel confirmed, the franchise will only continue to expand. Just how popular has it become? The film raked in $1.27 billion worldwide, making it the fifth highest grossing film of all time and the highest for an animated film. Elsa and Anna dolls have also become best sellers and have outsold Mattel’s Barbie, ending the doll’s 11 year reign as the highest selling Christmas toy.
The confirmed sequel is titled Frozen Fever, and will feature the return of the two sisters along with favorites Kristoff and Olaf. The plot revolves around Anna’s birthday, in which things go terribly wrong for Elsa and Kristoff as they try to give her an unforgettable celebration.
