Not long after the Ferguson grand jury decision, The New York Times created controversy by publishing Darren Wilson’s home address. Well, it looks like the reporter who published the information is getting a taste of her own medicine. Since releasing the information to the public, the journalist, who has been identified as Julie Bosman, has been the receiving end of harassment and death threats. In fact, she has now turned to an unlikely source for protection: the police.

According to the Chicago Police Department, Bosman has made multiple calls to authorities, citing that she has been receiving multiple death threats. Food that she did not order has also been delivered to her home.

Bosman’s address as well as that of a second NYT reporter was leaked by members of the site Got News as a retaliatory move. The same site also released the address of Ebola patient Nina Pham, though that was done so that people wouldn’t visit her home and end up getting infected.

New York Times published Darren Wilson’s address around the same time of the grand jury’s decision not to indict the Ferguson police officer for the shooting death of Michael Brown. Despite a wave of criticisms, the newspaper giant defended its actions saying that addresses are public access and that the information could also be easily obtained elsewhere.

This is not the first time that the release of home addresses became a controversy. Not long after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, the Westchester, NY, Journal News drew the ire of conservatives after it published a map revealing the home addresses of registered gun owners. Much as in the case with the New York Times disclosing Darren Wilson’s address, those who released the information were also subjected to threats and had to hire armed security officers to patrol their property.
