You might be working with the wrong SEO company and not even know it. With so many different companies aggressively soliciting businesses it is hard to tell at first which ones are the real deal and can help your business grow and which ones are pumping your head with empty promises in order to get your money. Here are 5 reasons you should consider looking at other SEO options.
“We guarantee #1 rankings!”
There are “SEO companies” (and we use that term loosely) that claim to be able to rank any website for any keyword, and they even “guarantee” it! Run far away if you hear these claims. The truth is that no SEO company can guarantee to rank you. The search engines control updates and if they wake up one day and decide to flip the switch there isn’t anything that a SEO company can do to stop it. Sure, there are companies that are very knowledgeable about what works and what doesn’t and the honest ones will tell you that. They will explain that they have the ability to help but they will also not use false guarantees to gain your trust and business.
“We use secret sauce”
This one is our favorite. There are companies that actually list “secret sauce” as one of their SEO strategy components. That term reeks of “scam” and if you were sold on your current SEO providers service because it contained this ingredient then you need to make some changes. Run far away form the sauce!
“Our methods are top secret so we can’t show you reports”
That translates into, “we aren’t going to do any work so we will have nothing to put on the reports!” You should be working with a SEO company that is 100% transparent and will want to gladly show you the work that they complete for your campaign on a monthly basis. SEO is an investment and you have the right to see what you are receiving for that investment. Don’t just take their word that “work” is being done each month. If they have nothing to show you then that typically means that nothing was done.
“We can get your website ranking #1 for $199!”
As stated above, SEO is an investment in your business and it requires a fairly significant investment to do it the correct way. With that being said, there are a lot of SEO providers that claim to be able to rank the most difficult keywords for just a couple hundred dollars. There is no way they can do this, and if they are going to do any work at all it will be outsourced low quality spammy links. There are great costs involved with creating content, building links and optimizing the website. If it sounds too good to be true then it most certainly is. These companies mass market in an attempt to hope to catch a sucker here and there. Hopefully you are not one of their victims.
“We have an inside connection to help us”
This is the most ridiculous claim, but sadly it is one that comes up often. These companies claim to have an insider at the search engines that will manually get the website ranking on top. This line must be working because they are still using it. Honestly if you fell for this one you might deserve it. There is no magic, no inside connection, no secret sauce.
Business owners need to have realistic expectations when it comes to SEO results and the legitimate companies will explain that it is something that takes time and that needs to be done correctly in order to build a solid foundation to continue to build on.
