Tiger Woods’ Quicken Loans National Tournament will be moving to the TPC Potomac course in Potomac, Md., in 2017.

The tournament has been hosted by the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md., just outside Washington, D.C., since it began in 2007. Previously, the D.C. area was home to the Booz Allen Classic, which TPC Potomac hosted from 1987 through 2004 while the course was known as the TPC Avenel.

The Quicken Loans National is an annual invitational tournament on the PGA Tour, run by the Tiger Woods Foundation.

“We believe TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm will prove to be an outstanding test for the Quicken Loans National field in 2017,” said Charlie Zink, co-chief operating officer of the PGA Tour. “With the extensive work that was done in 2008, the players who competed there previously will find it to be a much different golf course and tournament facility. We very much look forward to bringing the Quicken Loans National to TPC Potomac in three years.”

According to the Associated Press, Congressional Country Club’s members “have balked at hosting the event every year” and decided instead to host every other year. The tournament will be held in Gainesville, Va., in 2015 before moving back to Congressional in 2016.

TPC Potomac is just under 2 miles from the Congressional Country Club, and fits Woods’ wishes that the annual tournament remain in the Washington area, where it is usually held in mid-summer.

“My foundation is deeply committed to the D.C. area with our three learning centers and Earl Woods Scholarship Program students,” the golfer said in a statement. “We are excited to take the Quicken Loans National to another top course in the area that will challenge our strong field.”

Next year, the Tiger Woods Foundation will hold the tournament at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Va., from July 27-August 2.
