Johnny Depp Delivers Drunken And Slurred Speech At Hollywood Film Awards

The Hollywood Film Award event is certainly receiving its share of social buzz thanks to Johnny Depp’s drunken and bizarre behavior. The event was being televised for the first time, and the 51-year-old actor was given the honors to perform the show’s opening segment. His role was to present an award to Mike Myer’s smashing hit documentary Supermatch: The Legend of Shep Gordon.

What was supposed to be a simple presentation, though, became the highlight of the event that has sent social media into a frenzy. Depp appeared incoherent and was slurring his words. The first words that came out of his mouth was an oddball comment about how weird the microphone looked, which incited laughter from the crowd. He then went on to use some very colorful words in his following statement that prompted CBS broadcast to bleep out some of it.

Johnny Depp pressed on despite his drunken stupor. He attempted to focus on the autocue but just wasn’t able to put together a whole sentence without inserting a lot of “ums” and “uh’s” in between.

Here’s a snippet of his speech regarding Supermatch star Shep Gordon:

“He’s someone I consider a great friend, somebody … uh, yeah, uh … incredibly, uh … loyal, loyal friend. Um. And so … you have to watch the film. Yeah, there you go.”

Depp appeared to blank out for second and said “it’s one of those nights,” before he was cutoff (and saved) by a series of clips shown behind the actor.

Gordon was shown during the speech and his reaction, much like the rest of the crowd, was one of bemusement and laughter.

While Johnny Depp’s drunk behavior was certainly the defining moment of the show, it was not the sole highlight. Other notables of the night include Jennifer Lopez’s slip of the tongue when she was presenting the animation award to Gerard Butler for his voice role in How to Train Your Dragon 2. She inadvertently referred to the film as How to Drain Your Dragon 2.
