Cricket lovers all over the world are still coming to terms with the shocking death of Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes. As a tribute to the left-handed opening batsman, fans from over the world especially from Australia are putting their cricket bats against a wall as a mark of respect. #PutOutYourBats has become a trending topic on Twitter.
On November 25, 2014, Phillip was knocked unconscious by a bouncer during a Sheffield Shield match at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), causing vertebral artery dissection that led to a brain hemorrhage. Hughes couldn’t recover after he underwent a surgery and passed away two days later, having failed to regain consciousness.
The cricketer became a talking point on social media soon after being hit critically by a bouncer, but left everyone completely shocked after news came in of his passing away yesterday. #PhilHughes became a trending hashtag on Twitter while Facebook saw people reacting to his sudden and harsh death.
Support also poured in from all quarters for Sean Abbott who had bowled the bouncer. He remains shattered and disturbed after the incident.
A very sad day for the world of cricket. So sorry for Phillip Hughes and his family . Spare a thought for Sean Abbott.
