Are you aware that Target stores throughout the United States use a very specific set of sales codes that are not only simply to understand, but are also shared openly with the public? This guide will quickly walk you through the stores not-so-secret price codes. Just keep in mind that some of the codes may vary based on the location of each store.

Prices ending in a 9. The number 9 typically means Target is selling the item at full price. Consumers have been programmed over the years to believe $9.99 is a big saving over $10, despite the small difference in price. Attracting customers to full priced items involves a bit of trickery and the 9 at the end of prices is still popular for most retail chains. If the price of an item is $19.98 or $19.94 it is more likely to be on sale.

Small Print equals Big Savings. If you look in the upper right hand corner of a price tag at Target you will often see a number. This number represents the markdown. For example the number 15 means a 50% markdown.

IMPORTANT TARGET SHOPPING TIP: Target rarely marks items down below 50%, if you wait too long you might not get that clearance item you want at rock bottom prices. Keep in mind that some items have been known to drop to 90% markdown levels. Typically Target will markdown a sale or clearance item every two weeks until it is out of stock.

Remember, not every sales trick is hidden behind some secret corporate veil, if you take the time to learn about your favorite stories sales practices, you could save a bunch of money.
